Cadillac plans to keep its Manhattan ZIP code, shunning Detroit – Autoblog

Johan de Nysschen is credited for separating Cadillac from the GM nest in Detroit, but despite his ouster earlier this year, the luxury division says it will remain headquartered in New York City’s tony SoHo district.

“It’s 100 percent that we’re staying here, that was never a question,” Cadillac spokesman Andrew Lipman told the Detroit Free Press.

Cadillac in April announced that it was replacing de Nysschen, after four years running the flagship brand. The new brand boss, Steve Carlisle, previously was president and managing director of GM Canada. De Nysschen led a big push to separate the luxury brand from its parent company as a separate business unit, announcing the move to New York in 2014 as a way to gain more autonomy and better tap into the global luxury zeitgeist. The move was controversial at the time in some quarters, though Lipman told

2019 Cadillac XT4 vs. other compact luxury crossovers: How they compare – Autoblog

The Acura’s sizable exterior makes it very accommodating inside, with the best head and shoulder room for the front passengers, and nearly the best front leg room. It also wins out for leg and shoulder room for rear passengers, and is close to offering the best rear head room. For cargo space, the Acura wins with the rear seats up, but then cedes its position to the BMW X3 when the seats are folded. The Lexus has the least amount of cargo space behind the rear seats, and the Cadillac has the least with the seats folded. For towing, the BMW wins with a maximum of 4,400 pounds, followed by the Cadillac at 3,500 pounds. The Audi doesn’t have towing capacity listed, and the Acura only manages 1,500 pounds.

2015 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra recalled for steering issues – Autoblog

DETROIT — General Motors Co is recalling more than 1 million pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles in the United States due to issues with a temporary loss of power steering, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. The recall is for 2015 models. They are: the Chevy Silverado 1500, Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL and Cadillac Escalade.

The problem may cause difficulty steering the vehicle, especially at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash, the auto safety regulator said in a document dated Sept. 12. The document did not highlight any reports of accidents and injuries, because of the power steering issue. GM dealers will update the power steering module software, free of charge for owners of the affected vehicles.

In 2014, the No.1 U.S. automaker had recalled nearly 800,000 pickup trucks worldwide because of the same problem. GM did not immediately respond to

Cadillac cooking up new brand campaign for 2019

Cadillac’s new leader says the GM luxury brand now has “thousands of people” working on its behalf back at its soon-to-be new headquarters in the Detroit suburb of Warren, with a new branding campaign under development and plans to fix longstanding quality issues.

Cadillac President Steve Carlisle granted an interview with the Detroit Free Press in which he said he’ll unveil a new strategy to redefine the luxury brand, which he’s calling a “master brand,” in the first quarter of 2019. “Cadillac has its own values — boldness, optimism, innovation, sophistication — that will reflect in the master brand,” Carlisle told the outlet. The challenge is “how to bring those to life.”

He added that Caddy won’t be defining itself simply as a viable option to gold-standard Germany luxury cars. “We’re targeting customers versus competitors. Cadillac has to have its own persona and

GM creates new EV VP role, appoints Chevy Bolt boss Pam Fletcher – Autoblog

General Motors is finding some success with the Chevy Bolt EV, which was launched under the guidance of Pamela Fletcher as the company’s Chief Engineer of Electrified Vehicles. In fact, the Bolt has outsold the Chevy Volt for three months in a row, with 2,632 units going to customers in September. With its growing EV business, GM saw fit to create a new role, Vice President of Global Electric Vehicle Programs, and appoint Fletcher to the position.

In her new role, Fletcher will oversee the launch of every GM electric vehicle. The company has plans to introduce more than 20 all-electric cars around the world by 2023. “Nobody is more prepared to help us lead the way to a zero emissions future than Pam Fletcher,” said Doug Parks, GM’s Vice President of Autonomous and Electric Vehicle

Junkyard Gem: 1969 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Luxury Sedan – Autoblog

The 1965-1970 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight shared its platform with the high-zoot Cadillac DeVille and Buick Electra and lived at the very pinnacle of the Oldmobile Division pyramid. This ’69 Luxury Sedan nearly made it to age 50, but now sits in its final parking lot: a Northern California self-service wrecking yard.

It’s quite rough, though not rusty, and the presence of all the window regulators in the trunk suggests that its final owner may have begun a restoration project.

Unfortunately, even a 1969 Cadillac sedan needs to be cleaner than this car to be worth restoring. Perhaps a two-door Ninety-Eight in this shape might have made the restoration cut, but not a sedan.

You can see some flashes of the opulence that once held sway in this car’s vast interior. The fold-down armrest was just

First Drive: 2011 Lincoln MKX

Photos copyright ©2010 Zach Bowman / AOL

Outside, Lincoln has walked away from the semi-retro front fascia of last year’s model in favor of the swept corporate nose of the MKT. While we typically despise communal fascia design, the baleen grille does wonders for the nose of the MKX, and helps to further separate the crossover from the Edge. The ample chrome up front gives the CUV a proud face that fits well with the upwardly-mobile Lincoln brand, and that theme is carried on throughout the rest of the exterior. Like the MKZ Hybrid, the new MKX wears more than a few chrome accents. While we have no problem with the shiny stuff on the front fascia, we’d just as soon skip it along the window sills and the door handles.

Speaking of chrome, flashy 18-inch wheels are standard issue,
