Oregon City man dies in U.S. 30 crash near St. Helens

A 61-year-old Oregon City man died Thursday afternoon in a single vehicle crash on U.S. 30 just outside of St. Helens.

Barry Robinson Jr. was one of four passengers riding in a silver Cadillac Escalade driven by Michael Scarlett of Oakland, Calif. Scarlett was driving eastbound on the highway when he apparently drove up an embankment before rolling “multiple times” and crashing onto the passenger side of his vehicle, according to state police. The crash occurred near milepost 39 on the highway adjacent to the Columbia River. Officials responded to the scene just after 2:15 p.m.

Robinson died in the crash and Scarlett had minor injuries, Oregon State Police said. Zyrone Powell, a 23-year-old Oregon City man, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
