Restaurateur held in alleged attack on competitor

DANVERS — The co-owner of a popular Danvers restaurant is spending the weekend — and maybe longer — in jail, following his arrest on charges that he violently attacked a friend who is opening a cafe just across the road. 

Robert Braccia, 52, of 0 Livingston Lane, Newbury, pleaded not guilty to charges that include two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and malicious destruction of property, during his arraignment Thursday in Salem District Court. 

At the request of prosecutors, Braccia was ordered held without bail pending a hearing Monday afternoon to determine whether his release poses a danger to the alleged victim or the public. 

Braccia is one of the owners of Braccia’s Four66 Pub Grille, which is located on Route 1 just north of the Route 95 interchange.
