Seal Cove museum’s future at stake in legal dispute in Maine

Support for the Seal Cove Auto Museum could be at stake in a suit filed by the Maine Attorney General’s office that alleges that two trustees of a charitable trust inflated the value of the trust’s assets to pay themselves higher management fees, according to an extensive report in the Portland (Maine) Press Herald.

Although museum board members have no legal standing in the case, they “are watching closely because the fate of their quirky museum could be a stake,” the newspaper reported.

The museum is supported in part by monthly payments from a charitable trust established by Brass Era car collector and museum founder Richard Payine Jr.

Would trustees sell museum’s most valuable car, this 1913 Peugeot Type 150 boat-tailed ‘skiff’ by Labourdett, against museum board’s desires to keep such a showcase vehicle?

The newspaper reports that while the value of the

2019 Lexus LX 570 review, impressions, specs, and images

Body-on-frame SUVs like the 2019 Lexus LX 570 might have ruled the market a couple decades ago, but the old-school form factor has given way to smaller, more efficient car-based crossovers. That said, there’s still a big market for models like this. Just take a look at the success of the Toyota 4Runner or other luxury SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade or the Ford F-150-based Lincoln Navigator. Crossovers may be more popular, but nothing beats an old-school SUV’s chops when it comes to going off-road or towing big cargo.

The Lexus LX is available in two flavors: a five-passenger two-row model and a seven-passenger three-row model. We had a chance to drive both, the first in Michigan and the latter in Oregon. There’s a $5,000 difference between the base price on the two models. Both models had

Used Truck Sales Stabilize as New Trucks Struggle

Heavy-duty truck sales have been on the skids.

Demand for goods transport was soft this year. And with the presidential election looming, fleet managers and owner-operators are hunkered down in wait-and-see mode.

Carriers booked orders for 14,200 trucks in the heaviest Class 8 weight segment in August, ACT Research Co. reported. That’s a 29 percent decline from the same month a year earlier.

“In essence, we have too many new trucks chasing too little freight — companies were adding trucks to their fleets and manufacturers were continuing to build while freight growth was elusive,” said Steve Tam, vice president of the commercial vehicle sector for ACT.

But for the first time in months, the market seems to be stabilizing. As dismal as August’s new truck sales numbers turned out, they were still up 37 percent from a far worse July, when dealers sold just 10,358 units, ACT Research said. That was

December Heavy-Duty Truck Sales Improve, but 2016 Tough Year Overall

The North American heavy-duty truck market improved in December, but 2016 still saw sales and production plunge.

Industry research firm ACT Research said manufacturers sold 249,952 trucks in the heaviest Class 8 weight segment in the U.S., Canada and Mexico last year, a 19 percent decline compared with the prior year.

December sales reached 21,281 heavy-duty trucks, a six-month high. But that was still 19 percent below sales of 26,632 in the same month a year earlier.

North American manufacturers built 14,145 vehicles last month compared with 19,672 in the same period a year earlier.

They produced 228,347 heavy-duty trucks last year, a 29 percent decline compared with the prior year, ACT reported.

Carriers and shippers cutback on truck orders because of weak freight demand last year.

That’s prompted truck companies to slash both production and employment.

Volvo Trucks North America has announced plans to lay off 500 second-shift workers from its
