Mecum Auctions posted $10 million in sales with a 75 percent sell-through rate at its recent collector car sale in Denver, where the top-seller was a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda convertible that brought $181,500.
Prices reported include buyer’s fee.
The ’70 ‘Cuda wore Plum Crazy Pearl paint and was powered by a 528cid, 650-horsepower aluminum Gen 2 Indy Hemi V8 linked to a race-prepped 727 automatic transmission.
Resto-mod muscle proved popular with bidders as a 1968 Ford Mustang brought $143,000 thanks in part to a restoration that included the insertion of a 427cid, 650-horsepower Dart V8 and 5-speed Tremec manual shifter.
Muscle did well at the sale, but the No. 3 seller was a 1966 Volkswagen 21-window Samba bus that sold for $118,250.
