Woman grabbed by neck, stabbed while walking to Fullerton Red Line station – Chicago Sun

A 21-year-old woman was grabbed by a person and stabbed repeatedly Tuesday night while walking to the Fullerton CTA Red Line station in the Sheffield Neighbors neighborhood on the North Side.

At 10:53 p.m., the woman was walking east toward the station in the 1200 block of West Webster when the unknown male suspect grabbed her by the neck from behind, Chicago Police said. The suspect then stabbed her multiple times in the neck and back.

The woman was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition, police said.

Alphabet trounces profit estimates as costs come into check

Alphabet has reported expenses from its Google search business were growing more slowly and that revenue from advertising and cloud computing rose faster than analysts anticipated, boosting its earnings beyond Wall Street targets and pushing shares up 3.6 percent after hours.

Google’s dominance in online advertising has been challenged this year by the antitrust battle over its Android mobile software and other regulatory actions.

But the issues have yet to halt Google, which has grown quarterly revenue at least 20 percent year-over-year for two straight years.

“There was never a question about Google’s dominance of a buoyant digital ads market,” said analyst Richard Kramer of Arete Research.

The company has seen costs rise and profit margins dip as more searches and ads get shown on mobile devices, where Apple Inc and other firms charge fees to distribute Google search on their devices and apps.

Indy’s over, but Mecum calendar has three auctions in four-week period

As cars moved toward the end of the auction block this past week at Dana Mecum’s 31st annual Original Spring Classic sale in Indianapolis, they passed in front of a 1912 Indian “Big Base” 8-valve board-track racing motorcycle. The vintage bike was there to remind everyone that there’s more to come — and very soon — for the Mecum auctioneers.

On June 1-2, Mecum Auctions stages its second late-spring motorcycle sale in Las Vegas, where around 600 collector two-wheelers will be offered up for bidding at the South Point hotel and casino.

The following weekend, June 8-9, Mecum moves on to Denver for its annual collector car auction in the Mile-High City, and then it’s on to Portland, Oregon, for another collector car sale June 22-23. Both the Denver and Portland sales should parade around 600 vehicles across the block.

Keyless cars have a dangerous downside that has killed dozens of people

  • According to a New York Times report, there have been at least 28 deaths and 45 injuries caused by carbon monoxide emitted from vehicles with keyless ignitions since 2006.
  • Some of the deaths have resulted from drivers exiting their cars without realizing they’re running.
  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) proposed a federal regulation for warning systems in keyless vehicles in 2011, but the regulation was opposed by the auto industry and has yet to be implemented.
  • While automakers have installed warning systems into their keyless-ignition vehicles voluntarily, there is no universal standard among the systems.

Keyless cars have a dangerous downside. Sometimes, drivers mistakenly believe their cars are off after parking them, which can result in carbon monoxide filling their garages and homes.

Troubleshooters; Cadillac Escalade

On today’s Troubleshooters, a man asks for our help getting his car fixed, or his money back, from a local transmission shop.  We checked with CCPD.  They tell us it’s out of their hands. It’s is a civil matter now.

Steve Gutierrez says he brought his Cadillac Escalade to Coastal Transmission on Gollihar last September to have the transmission rebuilt.
Total cost ?  3200.00.  Gutierrez put half down.
He says it had been here just a short time when the owner, Saul Guzman, called and asked him a surprising question.
“If I had went and picked up the vehicle.  And I’m like ‘no.  Why ?’  He says ‘well it’s not here.”

According to CCPD, on September 29th last year, Saul Guzman, son of the owner, took Gutierrez’s car from the shop, and was involved in a
