2 injured in Williamson County crash

UPDATE: 5:15 p.m. THURSDAY, MAY 18, 2017

WILLIAMSON CO. — Authorities have released new details about the crash that closed a portion of I-57 Thursday morning.

Illinois State Police say it happened at around 11:15 a.m. at mile marker 51. Robert Matheis, 47, of House Springs, Missouri, was driving southbound on I-57 in a 2008 Cadillac Escalade just ahead of Raghubir Singh, 26, of Fresno, California, who was driving a 2013 Volvo semi. Matheis slowed for traffic that was backed up from road construction and was hit from behind by Singh.

Matheis’ car came to rest in the median, while Singh’s semi ended up on the shoulder of the right lane.

Singh was uninjured. Matheis suffered non-life threatening injuries and refused treatment on the scene, choosing to go to the hospital by private vehicle.
