Lebanon boy dies after dump truck hits cars on I-440 in Nashville

A two-year-old boy died Monday after a dump truck crashed into the back of his parents’ SUV on Interstate 440 in Nashville.

Logan Pederson was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after the accident with critical injuries. He died Monday afternoon, Metro police said in a press release.

Police said the driver of the Kenworth dump truck Shawn Gardner, 40, had been looking down at the time of the crash, searching for items that had fallen onto his floorboard.

Gardner was driving westbound on I-440 when the crash happened at about 9 a.m. near the exit to 21st Avenue South/Hillsboro Pike.
