Semana Hispana carnival opens Friday, parade is Sunday – Eagle

LAWRENCE — A main event of one of the region’s leading cultural festivals opens Friday on Campagnone Common, where Semana Hispana will sponsor a three-day carnival that will run until the week-long celebration closes on Sunday after a parade through the city.

Already, Semana Hispana has sponsored five Latin Night celebrations at locations around Lawrence recognizing the city’s Ecuadorian, Columbian, Peruvian, Mexican and Puerto Rican residents. A Dominican celebration is scheduled for Thursday on the Common at 6 p.m.

The carnival opens at 6 p.m. Friday, and at noon on Saturday and Sunday. It will feature amusement park rides, games, food and a petting zoo. Tickets are $25 at the Common or $20 in advance at local merchants.

Liquor at the carnival will be served in a limited area at the Senior Center across Haverhill Street. Semana Hispana organizers sought to serve liquor inside the festival on the Common, but the request was
