Eat Adorable Japanese-Style Pastries at This Kawaii Pop-Up Bakery

Is it your destiny to someday visit the Hello Kitty Cafe? This might just be the next best thing. On Saturday, Dallas-area pastry outfits Lala’s Cakes and We The Birds Macarons are teaming up with local event planners Three Twelve Co. to bring Dallasites adorable Japanese-themed Kawaii desserts. Kawaii, which means “cute” in Japanese, refers to goods (often foods) that are formed animal-shapes and faces.

We The Birds founder Natalie Knowlton tells Eater the bakery is cooking up an assortment of Kawaii-inspired donuts, macarons, iced shortbread cookies, and iced matcha tea. Some options will be gluten-free. The pop-up will also feature a mini-market with Kawaii goods for sale, origami to take home, more. If things go well during the event, this might not be the last Dallas sees of Kawaii baked goods. Lauren Lee, owner of Three Twelve, is exploring the possibility of launching a Kawaii-themed concept.
