But one hat he hasn’t worn yet is that of Prescott Daze Parade grand marshal, which he will be for this year’s parade.
“I’ve never been nominated for anything before, so it’s a nice gesture,” Shiely said. “I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be fun.”
Love of the river
Shiely, who was born and raised in St. Paul, learned to love the St. Croix River at a young age. His grandpa owned a house at the end of Prescott’s Lake Street turnaround along the river, so he and his cousins spent summers and holidays fishing, swimming and skiing, he said.
He was always intrigued when he was younger by the house on Lake Street that he and his wife Dianne have now called home for 40 years. Prescott and its riverfront are in his blood.
